This evening I stood in the tramway next to the two bags full of letters I was carrying to the post office and watched an elderly man entering the quite empty tramway. He wasn’t really secure on his feet. He opted for a first seat but did not like it. He turned into the other direction & walked past me. My first impulse was to tell him to immediately sit down, as I knew, that he would fall down as soon as the tramway would start moving.
And so it happened. The tramway made a sudden move forward to stop again and in the next moment there was commotion behind me and the man lay on the floor. He needed assistance and was helped by several passengers. I took over command for a nanosecond, then let go. Probably, I should have gone for a short inspection of his knee when he was sitting on a seat, but I left that out. It was too obvious, this call for attention/assistance, somehow. So I let it be. Although, one should never let a possibilty out to help another soul no matter what it’s intention were. That would be compassion, wouldn’t it?
